Santa's Reindeer

The story behind Santa's reindeer comes from a compilation of two different poems written almost a hundred years a part. In 1823, Clement C. Moore wrote a poem called, "A Visit from St. Nicholas," in which he described in detail what the magical figure looked like and gave him eight flying reindeer. This story is also known as "Twas a Night Before Christmas" in modern times. Once the eight reindeer were established, a hundred years later, Robert L. May wrote a poem using the same rhyme as Moore's called "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" in 1939. The rest, as they say, is history.
